As you know, I’m on a mission to showcase Colombian flavors not only through my own recipes, but also by highlighting restaurants! For each visit, I will discuss the following categories when describing my experience: Ambience, Colombian Connection, Favorite Dish, and Tips.
During the pandemic, we were craving Colombian food so we drove out to Leesburg to try Colombian’s Place. We ordered everything to go and then ate in the car to ensure social distancing.
Ambience: Colombian’s Place is inside a small food hall called Chefscape in Leesburg, VA. When you enter you are greeted at the door with a panaderia style glass case that showcases pandebonos, bunuelos, arepas, and more. When you pass the panaderia kiosk, you enter into a cool food hall space. Its painted black with a lot of vibrant and colorful art all throughout. The space feels casual and relaxed and there is a lot of seating. I even noticed a little stage in the corner with a mic set-up. It looked like it would be fun night out post-pandemic to stop by for a live performance or maybe salsa night!
Colombian Connection: A quintessential Colombian restaurant. You can find the panaderia staples like arepa, pandebono, empanadas, and deditos de queso and you can also find hearty entrees like ajiaco, sanchocho, and more!
Favorite Dish: Everything we had satisfied our craving for Colombian food. However I think the best dish we had was the torta negra. It was my first torta negra in years and it was even better than I remembered it from my childhood! The torta has the perfect consistency (not too dry and not too moist), it was semi sweet and I feel like its just the perfect dessert for those of us that can’t do too sweet. I will def be returning for this spot!
Tips:
-There is a parking garage that services the shopping center where Colombian’s Place is located.
-Their panaderia is popular. If there is something you must-have, be sure to call ahead to make sure its available.
